The Village Arts Collective: Making, Learning and Sharing Builds Community

Sponsored Content provided by Lisa Polanski - Marketing Director, Porters Neck Village

The following column is written by Susan Maruyama.

A new resident-led initiative is bringing creativity, connection, and inspiration to Porters Neck Village. Founded by resident, Susan Maruyama and assisted by resident Jack Wilson, the Village Arts Collective (VAC) provides opportunity for residents to find joy through the pursuit of art.

The Village Arts Collective offers a welcoming space for residents who already enjoy the creative arts — as well as those who have always wanted to learn something new. The Collective is comprised of art interest groups dedicated to specific arts such as Fiber Arts, Writing, Pottery, and Fine Arts.  The art interest groups give residents of Porters Neck Village a gathering place that encourages the pursuit of art, while building friendships. Every group is different but they each have built a community that offers pleasure and personal fulfilment.

Resident-volunteer leaders help coordinate meetings, activities, and encourage ideas generated by its members for special projects. This structure encourages residents to participate in the planning of the activities and projects that everyone wants to pursue.

Future plans include workshops, guest speakers, off-campus field trips, and enrichment opportunities and a new art interest group for crafts.

At its core, the Village Arts Collective is about experiencing the joy of making, sharing and feeling the kindness of friendship and community.

Creativity is thriving at Porters Neck Village – and everyone is invited to be part of it.
